Spinal Cord Injury BC

Spinal Cord Injury BC (SCI BC) helps people with spinal cord injuries (SCI) and related physical disabilities adjust, adapt and thrive in their new lives, whether they are dealing with a new injury or struggling with the ongoing challenges of living and aging with a physical disability. Through our two core programs (Peer Support and Information Services), we provide answers, social connections, educational opportunities and unique life experiences for people living with spinal cord injury.
No one prepares for a spinal cord injury and when it happens, the lives of individuals and their families can be turned upside down. Adjusting to life in a wheelchair is extremely challenging and the effects last well beyond the initial feelings of loss and despair. Through our 60 years of direct community service in BC, we know too well that people with physical disabilities experience barriers to community participation that result in social isolation, physical inactivity, depression, and other negative economic and health consequences. Donations support our programs, which engage this vulnerable sector of the population by offering opportunities to connect with others who are experiencing similar difficulties. A tremendous amount of support and learning occurs as a result of these relationships.
