Indigenous Student Bursary 2026

Celebrating the achievements and efforts of Indigenous people - we are happy to announce applications for the 2026 Indigenous Student Bursary are now open.

CRITERIA and GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

 

Application for this bursary is contingent upon the following:

 

  1. Student must be accepted at a post-secondary school

  2. Funding is available to any self-identified Indigenous Canadian student attending a Surrey School or Technical School

  3. Priority will be given to Coast Salish students attending a Surrey School or Technical School

  4. A letter of reference from a teacher, Indigenous Educator, support worker, Elder, staff, tutor, coach, mentor etc.

  5. As part of this application, the student will share goals and motivations for applying, as well as goals and hopes for Indigenous young people (either in written, video/social media form)

  6. Include in documentation in #5, how you self-identify as Indigenous Canadian

  7. If possible, a short report back about where the student is in their journey within 2 years of receiving the bursary.

 

The student to include an answer to one (1) of the following questions in their application:

 

  1. What does the future look like for Indigenous Canadians? Where do you hope to use your gifts/skills/passions to work towards that goal?  OR

  2. What does it mean to be an Indigenous young person living in these territories?  How do you see your role/responsibilities for enhancing opportunities for other Indigenous people now, and into the future?

 

USE OF FUNDS

 

Funds can be applied to any Canadian educational institution including, colleges, trade schools, esthetic training, non-profit courses, programs run through friendship centers, Surrey School District (continuing/adult education programs etc.,) or towards equipment purchased through one of the above institutions/agencies (e.g. laptops, tools etc.) recognized by CRA as a Canadian qualified donee.
