Zajac Ranch Society
Zajac Ranch for Children opened in 2004, after research done by the Mel Jr. & Marty Zajac Foundation showed the need for a facility with the accessibility and medical facilities to cope with the multifaceted requirements of children with life threatening and chronic illnesses residing in BC. Campers get to partake in activities such as horseback riding, swimming, kayaking, camping, sports, archery, crafts, music and theater in an inclusive and empowering environment. All activity areas are fully accessible so that even children with the most complex conditions can participate while receiving expert care. Zajac Ranch offers the ultimate camp experience - a place of excitement and fun, of healing and wellness — for children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp.
Our campers are at the heart of everything we do at Zajac Ranch. Last summer, 507 campers with varying medical conditions were able to climb to new heights on the rock wall, discover hidden hiking trails, learn catchy campfire songs, and confidently ride a horse. Each camper was given the support they needed to overcome any hurdles created by their condition, allowing them to participate as much or as little as they wanted.
This summer saw a change in our operations amongst the COVID-19 pandemic. With regular summer medical camps cancelled, our staff quickly came up with our successful daytime and overnight Family Retreats. This new cohort-based model had campers stay within their family ‘bubbles’ while still experiencing the joys of camp.
We remain as committed as ever to supporting BC's vulnerable children and their family members — and the Ranch needs YOU to help ensure it can welcome campers back for future summers. Please consider a donation to support the care of maintenance of Ranch facilities, petting zoo animals, horses, and new fall programming.
