Young Naturalists’ Club of BC Society (NatureKids BC)

Organization Logo

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

NatureKids BC is a nature discovery and environmental action organization
that helps children form meaningful and enduring connections with nature
alongside their families.

"What makes your organization’s work important in Surrey and area?"

There is a growing body of evidence that getting children outdoors exploring in nature is important for their physical and mental health. Although a connection to nature is proven to make children happier, healthier and smarter, we live in a time where kids spend less and less time in nature. Not only do kids need nature, nature needs them. A love for nature and wanting to go the extra mile to protect it takes years to develop. We work to instill this love into young children through ongoing and meaningful moments in nature with their families.

"What programs or services do you currently offer?"

Powered by passionate volunteers, members and donors, we engage young families in exploring the wonderfully diverse ecosystems of British Columbia through nature clubs in all corners of the province. We are passionate about making it easy for families to get out and explore, play, learn about, and take action for nature together. We introduce kids ages 5-12 and their families to the great outdoors through Explorer Days, NatureWILD Magazine, Citizenship Science and Stewardship initiatives and Awards programs.

"Who benefits from your work?"

hrough our 38 volunteer-run nature clubs we provide meaningful moments in nature for families with children ages 5 to 12.
