Board of Directors
The SurreyCares Community Foundation is seeking community-minded individuals who work or live in the City of Surrey to serve on the Board of Directors, which is the legal authority for the SurreyCares Community Foundation. As a Board member, a Director acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

The Board meets 10 times per year, for 1 ½ hour Board meetings on Mondays. Members are also expected to serve on one Board committee that meets between Board meetings and attend a full-day strategic planning session once a year.

The Board is seeking individuals with leadership, expertise and/or experience in the accounting, strategic planning, legal, finance, PR and communication sectors, as well as others with past Board experience. We are looking for:

Commitment to the work of SurreyCares.

Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of board governance and management: planning, policy, finance, fund development, investment, grant making, communications, marketing or governance.

Willingness to embrace the Foundation’s mission of philanthropic leadership in the community and support its objectives in asset building and grant making.

Have a reputation within his or her profession and the community that would serve to enhance the public image of the Foundation.

Willingness to serve on committees.

Attendance at monthly board meetings, committee meetings, annual general meetings and other foundation events.

Support of fund development activities.

Commitment of 8 – 15 hours a month to the Foundation. Term: 3 years or as otherwise specified.

Board Member General Duties:

Directors are expected to participate fully at Board meetings and review information necessary to make decisions.

Act in the best interests of SurreyCares.

Declare conflicts of interest and refrain from voting on such issues.

Share with other directors in being accountable to the Foundation’s stakeholders including donors and the community at large.

Identify and solicit potential donors.

Believe in the philosophies, vision, mission and values of the Foundation.

Support the Foundation’s mission through time, talent and treasure to the Foundation as appropriate to personal circumstances.

Be an advocate for the Foundation with contacts and professional colleagues.
