About Our Needs

Paws for Hope Animal Foundation is passionate about animals and their care and protection. We envision communities that embrace pets as family, ensuring they are loved, free from harm, and where no pet is left behind. Our approach recognizes that the bond between most animals and their people is strong and benefits both. We believe that to best help pets we need to help people and that pets are better served when they remain with their families, out of animal shelters.

Better Together is Paws for Hope’s flagship program to support vulnerable people, keeping much-loved pets with their families. Better Together provides ‘One Health’ wrap-around support to vulnerable pet families by funding veterinary care, providing pet food and supplies, and emotional support while also linking them to social services and public health support for themselves, including housing, mental health supports, and health care.

No Pet Left Behind provides pet foster care for women escaping violence and vulnerable people who need temporary care for their pet while they access medical care, in-patient treatment programs, shelters, or social housing that cannot accept pets. All pet care costs are fully covered including veterinary care, food, supplies, and transportation. No Pet Left Behind enables people to access the help they need for themselves because they know their pet will be cared for in the meantime.

Nobody’s Pets helps remote and underserved communities to address their community cats and free roaming dog challenges. We support communities to undertake Trap, Neuter and Return programs to address feral cat colonies and provide education to improve understanding about our responsibilities to pets, animal care, and bite safety.

The Animal Welfare Advisory Network of BC (AWANBC) is a collaborative of animal welfare organizations led by Paws for Hope. Together AWANBC members have developed Rescue Standards of Practice and are in the process of piloting an Accreditation Program.
