The Surrey Foundation and Southridge School are proud to present a joint presentation for staff and volunteers of non-profit organizations in Surrey.

Social media and your cause: can Facebook or Twitter really help you get more people to support the community projects you care about?

Puzzled guy surrounded by social media iconsFacebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, email newletters, blogs… are they worth the effort? Aren’t they just for young people? Aren’t they just a fad? Well, first of all, you’d be surprised how much the comments about social media today sound like the comments first made about the Gutenberg printing press, the radio, the television… And second of all, you might be surprised to learn just who is using these new media and what some organizations have achieved by using them well.

In this introductory workshop, we’ll spend about 30 minutes discussing your main questions about social media, everything from “why” to “what is…” to “how do I…” No question is too small or too silly!

Then we’ll move to the computers to begin a hands-on exploration of the various platforms, taking a “peek under the hood,” so to speak, and learning what the different services really are about, how they are different from each other, and a little bit about how to use them. At the end, we’ll give you a collection of resources, mostly online, that you can use to learn more.

We are offering the same workshop twice on the same day, so just pick the one time that works best for you.

Proceeds: Any proceeds remaining after costs for refreshments and materials will be divided evenly between the Surrey Foundation’s and Southridge School’s community funds to go back to the community.
