Another role a community foundation fills is that of trustee, such as collecting and redistributing community money to help people in need. Sometimes those needs are both emergent and urgent, such as in the case of the recent Prince George Lakeland Mill explosion (http://natpo.st/IkweiP).
Below is a request from the Prince George Community Foundation for help raising emergency funds to provide for the many families that have been profoundly affected by the disaster at the mill.
Anything we can give to help would be gratefully accepted by our northern neighbours. Please contact them directly (details below).

Subject: Lakeland Fire Assistance FundBy now many of you have heard that our community has suffered a devastating tragedy which will affect the community as a whole for a very long time. Right now the immediate needs of the employees and families of Lakeland Mills are our first and foremost concerns. To that end we have been designated as the central location for donations which will be distributed to those families in need through a third party agency.
Around 25 employees were on shift at the time of the explosion, at this point there have been 2 fatalities recorded, but others remain in serious condition.
From an employment view the long term effects and uncertainty for all employees of Lakeland are unknown and of imminent concern.
We welcome any assistance that you can provide to this fund.
Thank you,
JudyJudy Neiser,
